Hurricane Irene vs. AGGSA
…And the winner is Anglican Girls Grammar School! Saturday, August 27, 2011 Anglican Girls Grammar School Awkunanaw (AGGSA) USA Alumni Association scheduled their 11th annual convention, banquet and educational fundraising for projects in their Alma Mater at the Ramada Plaza in Newark, New Jersey. Party crasher, Hurricane Irene, planned to spoil the event, but the women of AGGSA proved to be a stronger force than nature. As Irene was dying down to a tropical storm, the women of AGGSA were gearing up for a successful event. People came from all over America for this event, and they were not disappointed.
Despite hurricane Irene raging against the East Coast, AGGSA’s school motto, “Arise and Shine,” ruled the day. The event was conducted under a tightened schedule to end before the worst of the storm. It was a success because of the commitment, determination and dedication of the community, and the leadership of the president, Mrs. Ngozi Achike, and the founding president, Blessing Onyedumekwu (Ada Zion) along with other members of the New Jersey chapter including Mrs. Jane Njeze, Mrs. Ezinma Anarah (Adaeze-Nwunye-eze), Edith Odukwe, and Mrs. Edna Okwuosa , the NJ AGGSA chapter coordinator.
The Keynote speaker was the Hon. Dr. (Mrs.) Fidelia Akuabata Njeze, former Minister of Aviation of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Chief launcher of the occasion was Mr. Clement Eze of Cheever Development Corporation NY., a known New Jersey philanthropist. click on picture to see more
